My Experience at Lotus Temple
When I visited the Lotus Temple last January, I was blown away by how beautiful it was. The temple looks like a big lotus flower and it’s so peaceful inside. The white marbles were shining in the sunlight, and it feels like you’re stepping into a calmness, which is completely away from the busy city.It’s like each petal was carefully crafted to make you feel welcomed and at ease.
Inside, the big hall made me feel small, but in a good way. There’s a pool in the middle that reflects the sunlight, making everything feel even more magical.
Sitting there, I felt so calm and relaxed. It was like all my worries just melted away, and I could just be in the moment. You can sit around the pool and take pictures.
Leaving was hard because I didn’t want to lose that feeling, but I left knowing I had found a special place that I could always come back to when I needed a break from the chaos of everyday life.
About Lotus Temple Delhi (Known as Bahá’í House of Worship)
The Bahá’í House of Worship, popularly known as the Lotus Temple located in New Delhi. This Bahá’í House of Worship was established in 1986. The property is owned by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of India.
The temple is in the village of Bahapur in New Delhi. The architect behind this beautiful Lotus temple was an Iranian, Fariborz Sahba who now lives in Canada.
He was approached in 1976 to design the Lotus Temple and later oversaw its construction. The structural design was undertaken by the UK firm Flint and Neill over 18 months, and the construction was done by ECC Construction Group of Larsen & Toubro Limited.

Recently, the Information Centre was opened to the public in 2003, and the Education Centre was inaugurated in 2017 on the premises.

The Secret of Lotus Petals
The temple’s most unique feature is its lotus flower shape. It is composed of 27 free-standing white marble petals arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides.
The architect, Fariborz Sahba, drew inspiration from the lotus flower, a symbol of purity, peace, and spiritual growth in many cultures.
Outside Lotus: The outside lotus has three sets of leaves or petals, all of which are made out of thin concrete shells.
Entrance Leaves: The outermost set of nine petals, called the ‘entrance leaves.’ These leaves open outwards and form the nine entrances all around the outer annular hall.
Outer leaves: The next set of nine petals, called the ‘outer leaves’, point inwards. The entrance and outer leaves together cover the outer hall. The third set of nine petals, called the ‘inner leaves’, appears to be partly closed.
